Energy

Comfort and energy are THE FUNDAMENTALS of an automated home.

Comfort is somewhat easier to achieve, but only advanced, intelligent automation can make further savings in energy use. But why Loxone?

Many functions

Loxone's system can perform several functions, because the many sensors and actuators are linked together in a central unit. Not only at the cabling level, but also at the running system level, where information is shared.

It can also process external information, to make decisions and execute them. Such information can be many things, not all of which are available to us yet, but it is only a matter of time. It is better to build a building now, that is prepared for future tasks than to try to extend its existing knowledge later.

In the Netherlands they built an underground garage for bicycles. Not for two and not for 100. Here we are still arguing about who owns the road, the cyclist or the car. In Belgium, you can buy electricity at a different price for different time zones, and the smart home regulates the building's consumption accordingly. Here, you can buy electricity from a competitor at one price. Hopefully time is working for us.

Loxone was one of the first in 2022 when energy prices shot up. They have created a system that, when applied to any building, learns its characteristics. Not only does it learn its energy parameters, but it can effectively regulate consumers based on that. The big multi companies find it harder to move to such a challenge.

Save your wallet

Until more external information is available to us, we can already use a lot of things wisely, saving our wallets. Some examples:

Electric car charging

This is also already here. Depending on how occipied the car is (and how much of a rush I'm in in the morning), it controls the charging time and power. With Loxon it can be connected to the solar panel, so you can draw power from there, not the grid.

Air conditioning

It doesn't consume little either. Although we can raise or lower the blinds, we are not always at home. And when we do, we may not want to pay attention to it. Here again, there is a 10-20% opportunity.

Lighting

This is a relatively small part of the consumption, but even with LED lighting we can still overdo it. Smart dimming and auto switching can be on the order of 40-80%. Overall, not much, but significant compared to itself!

Solar

Solar has been very attractive so far because of the balance billing. The excess 10% was not paid, but it was still very worth it. But it was worth it. However, the solar panel in our house, for example, without any control, sent only half of the electricity it produced to the grid, half of it was already used up on the plot. This will make a difference if I start using the energy consciously when the sun is shining, for example. Washing machines, dishwashers, heat pump HMW generation can be disabled at night, but it is also possible that in the future we will irrigate during the day. This is on the order of 25% plus, i.e. 75% of space can be taken out of the solar system post balance.

Heating

Heating as the largest consumer. (Until we have electric cars.) Shutters will also help the system run efficiently, but the real savings will come from taking over control of the boiler or heat pump. It can make a 15% difference in heat pump consumption if it is not controlled by the internal high quality thermostat, but instead controls based on external temperature. An additional 10-15% can be saved if you leave the process to Loxone, because it also sees and takes into account other parameters. All you need to do is connect the two systems.

In the end

There are many ways to save energy. The best way to do this is to have a lot of information available and to make decisions based on that information. And we can implement this decision on many elements. It is not really us, but a truly intelligent system. Loxone is like that. It no longer just looks at comfort, but also at energy efficiency through the services it incorporates. There is a very dynamic development of Loxone Config, a company that is expected to be in the market for a long time.
